Alex Cornell: Upcoming Artist
If I had to pick an artist be like, I would pick this guy. Alex cornell may not be world famous but he has sparked a little notoriety on Youtube with his covers of famous songs from “If I had a boat” to “Hey, Soul Sister.” I am always very excited when I hear a new cover he has done. Some say that he looks like John Mayer which is ironic because most of his covers are by John Mayer. He has also done a cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You.”
He does all of his playing, singing and recording by himself, with the exception of a couple videos where he has guest singers on. Alex Cornell has that voice that puts you at ease as well as give you a sense of calmness. He always puts a nice melody in all of the covers and his guitar skills further that skill. There are a few songs where he plays the piano as well which goes to show how talented he really is. Since I cannot play the piano he has me beat haha.
When I record its just usually at home in the privacy of my home and I just do it for fun. I’m not sure if Alex is trying to get recognized and be the next Bieber, but either way I feel that he is just having fun doing what he’s doing. At home I usually play at all of the open mics I can and I usually get a good response when I’m up there on stage. It’s just so incredibly nerve racking but once you start to play and forget that everyone is watching you, it’s very easy to lose yourself and just play. Anyway, I definitely not be a Youtube sensation, but I’m doing what I like to do and I’m definitely okay with that. I just hope Alex becomes something other then a Youtube sensation because he has the potential to be great.

As I said in my previous post I love anything that puts me in a good mood or anything I can just mellow out to. Here is yet another cover I did by Jack Johnson. He is definitely one of the more mellowed out acoustic players out there. He can turn your frown “upside down.” I always love listening to him when I’m on my boat, the beach or just hanging out around the house. If you haven’t listened to him (which would be a shocker if you haven’t,) then I suggest you head on over to my “Artists” tab where there is a list of all the artists that I bring up in my Blogs. There you can find just a few of the the artists I have been talking about such as John Mayer, Alex Cornell and Jack Johnson himself. I will be posting more artists up there soon so stay tuned.
When I was recording this song, I tried to stay true to the original song so not to disappoint fans of Jack Johnson. If you listen closely you can hear me strum and pick at the same time. I recorded myself picking after I finished the lead guitar beat. This recording was done a year or so after Free Fallin’ So I hope I did this song justice. There is now a comment section on my blog under each post, so now you can finally leave your two sense there and let me know what you think about it :). Anyway I hope you will enjoy my cover of “Do You Remember” by Jack Johnson!
Who Inspires Me The Most
Before I start posting more covers that I have done, I would just like to talk about who and what inspires me to play music. I have always loved the voice and guitar rhythm of John Mayer. His voice and lyrics always have a different emotional impact on me. Most of the time I listen to his songs because they are very true to how I feel. For example, If I’m feeling sad maybe i’ll listen to his blues song “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room.” If I have a love interest I’ll put on “Your Body Is A Wonderland.” What really gets me though is his acoustic ability. Since I’m mainly an acoustic player I love the sound and lyrics that he can produce. It gets me every time. To me John Mayer has the cool blues feeling that gives me chills whenever I hear him play. When I saw him in concert I paid the 150 dollars at SPAC to be in the front row just so i could hear his guitar and voice. I’m not obsessed if that’s what you are thinking haha no, just a fan of his work.
This is not to say that I don’t listen to other artists. Some of my favorite artists include Dave Matthews Band, Lyle Lovett, Jack Johnson, Alex Cornell and many others. All of these artists have that cool mellow, and very up beat rhythmic that I really like to listen to and play.
In the end anything that I can relax and listen to while doing homework, playing my guitar or just hanging out is okay in my book. Stay tuned because next week I will be posting some more covers that I have done.

Here is my version of Free’ Fallin! This was my very first semi professional recording. I’ve always loved Tom Pettys Version of this song but it was all electric and to upbeat for me. When I heard John Mayer first play this on his dvd I was in awe. He delivered the song perfectly. His voice and guitar didn’t disappoint me at all. When i decided wanted to record this song it took me at least 20 takes to get it where I wanted to be, and then another 15 takes to record the vocals. There were always too many noises in the background or I kept forgetting to turn my phone off. Whoops. Anyway I hope you enjoy it :)
